Our summary of the M‑Files March '23 update: four defect fixes, plus Advanced Outlook Integration, M‑Files Web Companion and a new built-in Share object type.

M‑Files’ March 2023 update fixes four defects and brings a long list of improvements. Here is what each one changes.
Defects fixed#
- Upgrading or creating a SQL Server vault no longer shows the error “Must declare the scalar variable ‘@iRights’” when SQL Server was installed as case-sensitive at server level.
- An empty date value no longer stops the metadata card from opening in M‑Files Web.
- Certain views and workflows with ACL filters in SQL Server vaults no longer leave you unable to edit objects in the vault.
- An incomplete upgrade of an offline vault no longer loses the database connection.
Improvements#
- In a view with a grouping level, the filter now applies to the list of folders in the folder selection.
- Automatic logout settings can be changed from the M‑Files Admin configuration.
- Clicking the M‑Files logo in the top panel now opens the default landing page in M‑Files Desktop. The “All” page opens instead if no default landing page is defined or available, for example in offline mode.
- Advanced Outlook Integration is now available in M‑Files.
- In a multi-server mode environment, when admins attach a vault that is already attached to at least one server, the ignore vault options check box is selected by default.
- M‑Files’ link feature now also works for views, in M‑Files Web and M‑Files Desktop. For links built from templates that your administrator defines, see FancyLinks.
- M‑Files Web Companion lets locally installed Windows and Mac applications edit files from M‑Files Web.
- When a user drags emails into an M‑Files folder in Microsoft Outlook that already contains imported emails, they can now confirm or ignore the prompt for all of them at once.
- The new M‑Files Web uses the browser’s preferred language to format numeric property values.
- Occasional flickering when M‑Files Desktop opens is prevented, and the user interface loads faster.
- A new built-in Share object type and additive automatic permissions make it easier to share M‑Files documents for collaboration.
- The new M‑Files Web now supports links that do not include the object GUID.
- As part of replication in a multitenant cloud environment, vault admins can import either unchanged or signed scripts.
- Two new mobile settings in M‑Files Admin (Advanced Vault Settings, under Configuration > Client > Mobile > Listing) limit how much a listing shows:
- the maximum number of objects shown in groups of search results
- the maximum number of items shown in views (HTTPS), or of objects shown in groups under views (gRPC)
- On gRPC connections, views and search results also get a Show More command when a listing holds more than the setting allows.
- The clickable area of the tabs in M‑Files Desktop is larger, so tabs are easier to hit: Recent, Pinned, or one of your CtrlPortals tabs.
In short#
The changes users are most likely to notice are Advanced Outlook Integration, the new Share object type for working on documents together, and the interface work on desktop and mobile.
